Canada’s largest annual celebration of Ontario’s award-winning wineries and vineyards has begun! This article wraps up the first weekend of events for Niagara Wine Festival 2012 but not to worry as we still have another full week left to celebrate.
What better way to kick off the Niagara Wine Festival than by dropping over to Montebello Park for a visit? The park is hosting several music acts during the festival, many other events and tons of food plus wine options. It really is the best way to acclimate yourself before venturing off to the different wineries.
It’s hard not to just sit yourself down in the park and enjoy all of the festival here. The wineries are in attendance and with so many food options plus constant music acts, it’s easy to lose track of time. As we strolled through the park we spotted AVella’s enticing wood fired pizzas. We haven’t run across them since Suppermarket and were glad to see their booth busy and hopping. Right next to them was Colaneri Estate Winery which had the Winers Choice Best Red 2012.
It’s important to note that the celebration at Montebello Park is FREE. Plus the City of St. Catharines is providing free parking on weekends and evenings in City parking garages and lots. Sweet deal!
Montebello Park Access is:
- Friday (Sep 28) 5pm – 10:30pm
- Saturday (Sep 29) 11am – 10:30pm
- Sunday (Sep 30) 12noon – 8pm
If you don’t have a Discovery Pass but plan to do some wine tasting this weekend, I really recommend you look into getting one. They are $30 for six different wine experiences (a savings of up to half off). Dan and I used a Discovery Pass during the New Vintage Festival and we currently are using one for this Festival. It’s perfect!
Look for much more from us this week as we visit wineries with our Discovery Pass. We already paid a visit to Fielding Estate Winery to meet this year’s Grape King and sipped with the DIVAs at Legends Estate Winery. Keep your eyes peeled for those articles as this week of wine celebration continues!
