Welland. The Rose City. Located in central Niagara. A place rapidly growing in popularity as a flatwater sports destination.
However calm in the past, this Sunday brought about a turning of the tide…
Welland turned into a bloody, corpsified nightmare.
Maybe you’re a resident. Maybe you happened to step outside your door for a Fall evening stroll. Maybe you found yourself coming around a corner to this?
That’s right, ZOMBIES!
Welland just celebrated a very successful second annual Zombie Walk. Last year only attracted a small number of participants but this year’s event totaled over 100.
Surprisingly the event was a balanced, skin-rotting group of adults and kids. It’s great to see Niagara Family Fun getting a zombie treatment!
Engaging themselves fully in ‘zombie-mode’, some people were flopping on the ground, pressing themselves against store windows and then continuing forth on a menacingly slow drag up Main Street.
James Takeo started the event last year and intends to continue the tradition. Please join the Welland Zombie Walk Facebook Group in support.
With a background in make-up for TV & Film, I have had to create several different zombies for various projects. I was quite impressed to see how fully people threw themselves into the costume and make-up aspects. It’s the little details like leaves in the hair, dirty faces, and destroyed clothing that really sell it. I know some of them couldn’t have been comfortable!
Dan and I look forward to seeing what next year has to bring!
