One of my favourite venues during the Niagara Icewine Festival is the first one we ever visited, the Market Square in St. Catharines.
Throughout the 17 days that make up the event, the venues vary depending on location. From formal galas, to intimate winery settings, to entertaining outdoor festivals there is something to suit the taste of anyone interested in coming out for great wine and food.
The Market Square event is held in the downtown core of the city of St. Catharines and starts at 5 pm on Friday evening. Located next to the City Hall, it is close to a large number of businesses, offices and eateries. On Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays this indoor/outdoor building is the home for the St. Catharines’ Farmers Market.
What I enjoy the most about this particular venue is that because the location and time of day, you see a different crowd than most other venues. People are able to stop over after work or just before their evening plans downtown and take in the festivities that might otherwise require a special trip out of their way. The building is open-concept and creates an outdoor atmosphere for an event that is safely in out of the cold.
Similar to the other great locations throughout the festival, the crowd is treated to a delightful selection of Niagara’s wines, some of our great regional food truck eats as well as live entertainment.
For Katie and I this allowed us a chance to enjoy some wine and a bite, chat with some friends and still walk to our dinner date. The end of our Icewine Festival events was a pretty great way to get our evening started!
